Dr. Saeed Al-Qamiri holds a lecture on the digital store of the Mehri language in the International Archive of Endangered Languages


On Monday, at Fyna Khair Foundation Hall for Development and Humanitarian Work , held the lecture on the digital store of in the International Archive of Languages around the World.

Dr. Saeed Al-Qamiri, executive director of the center, spoke of the importance of the international archive of the faculty of Oriental and African Studies at the University of London, which provides modern means of preserving the audio and visual materials of some 529 languages spoken around the world, including Mehri, Socotri and Shahri.

he reviewed the archival contents of Mehri poems, cultur and traditions, museums of traditional crafts, the nature of ancient Al-Mahra , camel culture and other animals of the people of the sea culture, agriculture and pastoralism. This material has been documented by the Centre’s Linguistic Documentation Department and with the great efforts of Professor Saad Muslim Bin Gaqeeeya and to preserve it, it has been deposited in the International Archive so that all can participate in scientific and cultural studies, document and preserve it for future generations ·

Finally, Dr. Al-Qamiri explained the mechanism for registering and obtaining an archival membership, to access all archival materials, so that all researchers could easily obtain materials in the Mehri language or any other language within the archive ·
