The Administrative Body of Mehri Language Center for Studies & Research Holds Its 2ND Regular Meeting


The administrative body of the Mehri Language Center for Studies and Research held its second regular meeting on Monday 6/12/2021 headed by Professor Amer Fael Balhaf, head of the center. The meeting discussed and approved the following works:

  • Discussing the previous meeting minutes held on Tuesday, 9/21/2021 , with an emphasis on raising the center’s departments’ plans for the next year 2022 .
  • Discussing the visit of Dr. Saeed Al-Qumairi, Executive Director of the Center to the temporary capital, Aden, which included:

– Presenting the publications of the center to scientific libraries.

-Giving a scientific lecture at the Faculty of Arts, University of Aden, entitled: The Mehri language, its linguistic evidence and some of its arts.

– Agreement with the Aden Center for Historical Studies and Publication to hold an international conference in October 2022 in Al-Mahra Governorate, entitled “Al-Mahra through History”, and agreement on its main axes and main topics, which will be announced at the beginning of next year 2022.

  • Approval of the printing of new versions of the Centre as follows:

– The book “The Mehri Folk Tale… A Morphological Approach in the Light of Probe’s Approach (Hazeit “Lilanot” as an example”) by the researcher Dr.: Mosad Amer Sidoun Kelchat.

– A poetry collection by the late poet Gharib Khamis Al-Kush.

– The book “Explorations of plants in Mahra and Socotra…from the memoirs of European orientalists in the nineteenth century” translation of scientific works from German into Arabic by the researcher Dr. Muhammad Al-Fatimi, Professor of Pharmacy and Medicinal Drugs, University of Aden, after obtaining permission from the original researchers in the German Foundation .

  • Follow up the progress of the research projects implemented by the center, which are as follows:

– The project “Inventory and Documentation of Mehri Language Vocabulary”, funded by the local authority in the governorate, whose work will end on 12/12/2022, and then move to the third phase of the project, which is to unload the data and save it electronically, and deposit it in the Google network to identify it.

– The “People’s Songs in Al-Mahra ” project, funded by the Cultural Attaché at the US Embassy in the Republic of Yemen, which is in its early stages and is represented by field visits to document songs used in the governorate’s directorates.

  • Updating the Mahar Language Center portal , www.mcsr.mhru.edu.ye,, with the adoption of the new additions to the site:

– Developing the site in line with the websites of research centers in the world and high-end educational institutions.

– Adding special windows to the side sites for the written and speaking Mehri dictionary.

– Developing the Mahar language keyboard, and expanding its use in various electronic systems: Android, IOS.

– Creating special accounts for the Mehri Language Center for Studies and Research in the Google system, and electronic stores to prepare practical applications for introducing the Mehri language, and teaching it electronically.

  • Discussing and approving the implementation of some scientific courses for the Mehri researcher and postgraduate students.
