On Saturday October 2021,sponsored by Prof. Mohammed Ali Yasser, Governor of Al Mahra , and attended by Prof. Salem Abdullah Nimer, General Secretary of the Local Council of the Governorate, the Mahria Language Centre for Studies and Research participated in the group marriage ceremony of 80 grooms and brides in (Karwi) in Badia Akraim.
At the beginning , Sheikh Suleiman Ali Suleiman Al – Harizi (Bu. Omar) welcomed all those present and thanked the local authority, the Mehriya language centre for this gracious gesture, and the material and moral support of all the couples.
This group marriage included many popular paragraphs in the Mahri language, most notably the art of Rajzeet (Dan Dunn) for many Mahri poets who came to attend this unique occasion. the Language Documentation Section of the Centre has documented Rajzeet in full for filing, use in future research and preservation.
At the end , Dr. Saeed Al-Qamiri, Executive Director of the Centre, conveyed to them the congratulations and greetings of all the members of the Centre, wished them a happy married life and expressed the joy of celebrating the Mehri Language Day, which coincided with their joyous wedding day.
Prof. Salem Abdullah Nimer, General Secretary of the Local Council of the Governorate, congratulated the couples and At the end of the marriage ceremony, Nimmer provided a sum of money from the local authority to each groom, and to all 40 brides. He also conveyed to them the greetings of the Governor, Prof. Mohammed Ali Yasser.
The marriage was attended by Sheikh Mohammed Ahmad Al-Zuwaidi – General Sheikh of the Zuwaidi tribe, member of the Cooperation Council, and acting as General Director of Sayhut District, Sheikh Muslim Huzaiz Zabanout, Deputy Governor for Desert Affairs, and Mr. Saad Muslim Kalashat, Head of Documentation Department at the center, the highest number of attendees coming from different cities.
